Through a concealed entrance in the revamped Cinobo Opera, BAR 2046 stands out as Athens’ first bar ingeniously hidden inside a cinema. It plays on a quiet speakeasy allure and draws inspiration from the film ‘2046’ by Wong Kar-wai. Deep red velvet curtains, dark woods, gentle lighting and mid-century details create a space that blurs the line between the city and an imagined, vintage metropolis.

Behind the bar, the serious yet understated team from Burger Disco Club and Ghost Sake Bar curates a line-up of signature cocktails: the namesake ‘2046’ balances Japanese whisky, umeshu and oolong; ‘Faye’ ventures into floral-gin territory. Comfort-focused bites include sandos with kimchi-grilled cheese or pastrami and Japanese mayo egg salad, co-signed by chef collaborations. Four nights a week, DJs—including figures from Athens' film world—spin vinyl and digital sets. No cinema ticket is needed to enter; the space is as open to conversation as to pre-show drinks or post-film reflection.
